A number of operators in Canada and the United States have started pushing out the much-anticipated Android 8.0 Oreo update for their respective carrier-branded variants of the Pixel and Pixel XL, following Verizon’s rollout on Wednesday.

The Oreo upgrade bundles a number of coveted features Android fans have been requesting for years, including support for Program-in-Picture (PiP), notification channels, adaptive icons and circular emoji, as well as a slew of much-needed bug fixes.

But what about the Galaxy S8?

There’s no telling how long it will take for the update to arrive on smartphones from third-party manufacturers, like LG and Samsung. Carriers appear to be on the ball this time around though, so maybe we won’t have to wait six months to receive the latest flavor.

Maybe.
