Hilaria Baldwin is speaking out after online critics took issue with an outfit worn by her 12-year-old daughter, Carmen.
The mom of seven — who shares her children with husband Alec Baldwin — turned the conversation toward a broader message in a now-deleted video, arguing that policing clothing choices reflects deeper societal problems.
Naysayers took to the comments section after Hilaria posted a recent clip, in which her eldest daughter “directed” a “#gossipgirl” Instagram video on Sunday, January 18, alongside her sister Ilaria, 3, and sister María Lucía, 4. In the clip orchestrated by Carmen, she wore a white tank top with a pearl body-chain placed over it, a beige skirt, black tights and a tiny black handbag.
“She’s 12!!!! Why rush her,” one social media user wrote in response, garnering a reaction from Hilaria, reading, “Your mind is in the gutter. Your comment is a mirror.”
The yoga instructor followed up with another video that has since been taken down, venting her frustrations over the backlash surrounding her daughter’s ensemble.
“Hi I’m Hilaria Baldwin, and I want to talk about how this comment relates to pie, the patriarchy, and keeping us all very sad,” she began, according to People. “I’ve learned from a lot of really incredible people, scientists, feminists, super wise women, what this is about and how we can all do better so that the next generation doesn’t have to deal with the garbage that we’ve had to deal with.”
“We think that there’s only a certain amount of resources, so we all have to go and run to grab our slice of the pie and any person in our way, boom, boom boom. Gotta knock them out of the way,” the author said in an effort to debunk that theory.
To illustrate her thought process, Hilaria drew a chart that broke down a woman’s life into three sections representing childhood, adulthood and being a senior. “When we’re babies and little girls, it’s a safe zone, right? They don’t intimidate, they don’t want pie,” she explained. “There’s women in their prime, that’s where the pie eating is happening.”
“Old ladies, safe zone,” Hilaria continued. “[They] think that all of a sudden we get here, there’s no more pie again.”
Hilaria noted that she nurtures her children and parents with care, reminding them to “be careful” online and out in the world. “The way to take care of them is not through Instagram comments or shaming,” she doubled down after being accused of allowing her daughter to “turn into a Kardashian.”
“Wearing a tank top and a skirt and tights. She’s been wearing that her whole life. So why is it making you uncomfortable?” Hilaria fired back at critics.

She went on, “Yes, teach about predators, but ultimately women can do more harm to each other through this kind of comment because it’s shaming and it’s not inclusive.”
In addition to her daughters, Hilaria also shares sons Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 9, Romeo, 7, and Eduardo, 5, with Alec, 67. Alec is also a father to Ireland Baldwin, 29, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Kim Basinger.
Hilaria and Alec have been married since June 2012.
