The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is proposing a $173 million plan to minimize repairs to Waikiki and surrounding neighborhoods if a “100-year flood” causes a Ala Wai Canal to overflow.
Such a inundate — that has a 1 percent possibility of occurring in any given year — would destroy 3,000 properties and means $318 million in constructional damages, according to a Corps’ newly expelled analysis.
