HONOLULU (AP) — Federal wildlife officials contend a world’s oldest famous seabird has returned to Midway Atoll.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service pronounced Wednesday a Laysan Albatross named Wisdom was speckled during a remote island on Nov. 19.
An ornithologist initial put an marker rope on Wisdom in 1956. She’s estimated to be during slightest 64 years old, though she could be older.
Laysan albatrosses typically partner for life, though Wisdom has expected had some-more than one mate. She has lifted as many as 36 chicks.
Breeding albatrosses and their friends will mostly spend about 6 months rearing and feeding their young. They fodder hundreds of miles out during sea for squid or drifting fish eggs.
Midway Atoll is about 1,200 miles northwest of Honolulu. It’s partial of a Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.
