Lineup mistake leaves Minnesota Wild down a defenseman during Sidney Crosby’s return

The Minnesota Wild already had their hands full Tuesday night because Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby was returning from November surgery.

Then they found themselves down a defenseman before the game started because of an apparent lineup mistake from coach Bruce Boudreau.

According to reporters covering the game, Boudreau had listed forward Ryan Donato in the lineup and defenseman Greg Pateryn as a scratch. But Pateryn dressed while Donato was in the press box. Because of the mistake, Pateryn was forced to leave the game and Donato had to get dressed.

The Wild found themselves two defensemen down when Matt Dumba high-sticked Pittsburgh’s Zach Aston-Reese at 7:28 of the first period.
