More than 120 passengers from Princess Cruises’ Diamond Princess cruise ship are still at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, and many will be released to go home Tuesday.
In a release issued by the city Tuesday, Mayor Ron Nirenberg said that all passengers who have been coronavirus symptom free for 14 days would be released in an orderly fashion to minimize exposure risk to residents of San Antonio.
“As Mayor of this city, my foremost concern is preventing the spread of the coronavirus to the local community,” Nirenberg said in the release.
On Monday, the passengers who were quarantined at the Texas base found themselves stuck when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention paused their scheduled release at the behest of the city of San Antonio. Their 14-day stateside quarantine, which started after they had already been in quarantine aboard the ship, was supposed to end Monday.
