Windows 10 Fall Creators Update now available

Microsoft on Tuesday began rolling out the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, which coincidentally arrives with the launch of the Surface Book 2. The update’s arrival comes after months of testing—we detailed the big improvements coming to the software when it was first announced.

Among the changes, Microsoft is bringing mixed reality and 3D to Windows, faster broadcasting for gaming, and a reimagined Photos app, giving users the ability to add filters, text, and more.

Perhaps the biggest change includes a new “My People” feature, which will give Windows 10 users quick access to their favorite people, whether it’s a co-worker or significant other.

As you would pin an application to your taskbar, you can now pin people for one-click access. Microsoft says clicking on a contact will bring up shortcuts to communicate over email and Skype without having to launch those apps.

Microsoft Edge is also receiving plenty of new features, including the ability to annotate books, pin websites to the taskbar (Microsoft recommends LinkedIn), and URL editing for favorites.

Microsoft says the update, which is rolling out to consumers worldwide right now, should automatically be offered to your device—simply wait for it to upgrade. You can, however, manually update your PC by going to Settings Update Security Windows Update.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest new features, Timeline, isn’t available in the Fall Creators Update; Microsoft previously confirmed that feature would arrive next year.
