Verizon announced its earnings report for Q4 2017, and the nation’s largest carrier is continuing to experience growth in the wireless industry despite fierce competition from other brands.
Here are the highlights:
Over the course of the entire year, Verizon says it added 2.1 million net additions and 1.8 million smartphones. Those numbers are its highest since 2015. And, in 2017, Verizon also sold 31,000 tablets and 1.3 million other connected devices.
Verizon’s wireless division generated nearly $24 billion in revenue during the quarter, which largely helped the company have its net income stand tall at $18.8 billion. The company also saw slight growth from FiOS, its fiber-optic communications network that provides various home services. Oath, the subsidiary overseeing Aol and Yahoo, brought in $2.2 billion in revenue. So all of Verizon’s businesses were notable parts of its success in 2017’s final quarter.
In 2018, the company expects to roll out “next-generation network services.†That, of course, means its 5G network is on the horizon. But Verizon would also like to leverage Oath better to serve digital content directly to consumers. And there’s likely a live television streaming service from Verizon coming this year. No doubt a busy year is ahead for Verizon.
