Uber resumes self-driving car trials in the US

Uber has resumed testing of its autonomous vehicles in the United States, following a collision in Tempe, Arizona on Friday that left one of its Volvo SUVs flipped on its side, reveals TechCrunch.

After conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, a spokeswoman told the publication that Uber is confident in returning its remaining self-driving test cars to the road, effective immediately.

If the Volvo SUV was found to be responsible, the inquiry would have lasted a lot longer, but seeing as local police determined the crash happened after a human-driven vehicle failed to yield to the Uber, the firm has no reason to halt its autonomous fleet.

A testament to the safety of modern cars

Fortunately, at the time of the accident, the Uber wasn’t carrying a passenger (except the driver, of course), and nobody involved was reported seriously injured — a testament to the safety of modern cars.
