Tiny tags lane butterflies from northwestern Ontario

Ten sovereign butterflies from northwestern Ontario will start their tour south with a commemoration from northwestern Ontario.

This summer, Ellen Riggins, who lives on Dinorwic Lake, easterly of Dryden, Ont., took partial in a plan to tab and lane monarchs.

“I’ve always desired butterflies,” Riggins said.

So this summer, when she detected a clump of engulf milkweed nearby her home was personification horde to over 20 sovereign caterpillars, she motionless to take partial in a plan she’d listened about in a media. 

“I motionless that I’d try this tagging,” she said.

Riggins reached out to monarchwatch.org — a citizen scholarship bid to learn some-more about sovereign emigration patterns by marking and releasing the butterflies — to sequence her tags. 

How do we tab a butterfly?

The tiny white glue tags are noted with a monarchwatch.org website address, a phone series and a series sold to Riggins, she said, so that if they’re discovered, people will know accurately where they originated, and who tagged them. 

Their northwestern Ontario start would no doubt make them a singular find. Riggins pronounced she hasn’t listened of any others holding partial in a tagging plan in a region.
