When we think about a character type like the orcs in the upcoming Middle-earth: Shadow of War, it’s easy to lump them all into one pile of angry, cruel, and ugly monsters. But with the orcs’ stories playing a bigger role than ever in the sequel, the team wants to make sure that not every orc is just like his brethren. Enter comedian Kumail Nanjiani’s character, The Agonizer.
“What’s tough about [the Agonizer] is that he wants to be bad ass, he wants to be cool, but he second guesses himself,†Nanjiani explains in the video. Maybe the Agonizer has seen a few too many of his friends spout out clever death taunts to heroes, only to have their heads roll moments later. Whatever’s happened, he’s clearly been affected by it and isn’t quite the monster so many of his compatriots consider themselves. It makes you wonder if maybe they’re overcompensating.
The character is goofy, and I’m hoping he won’t stick out too much, while still getting enough time to leave his mark.
Shadow of War is the sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and once again players will step into the shoes of the ranger Talion, still bound to the wraith Celebrimbor. The pair, known as the Bright Lord, must take down Sauron, and will recruit an army of orcs and other beasts to accomplish the task. The game hopes to improve on the original’s Nemesis System and give each player an even more unique and personal playthrough.
