Microsoft has been looking for ways to expand the Xbox brand for years and has taken some pretty unorthodox steps to do so in the last couple years. But while we’ve seen some of these come to market, like Xbox’s deep integration into Windows 10, others have gone by the wayside. Among those was a potential Xbox smartwatch, of which images have leaked online.
There were rumors of a smartwatch coming from the company, designed in part by Kinect co-creator Alex Kipman, back in 2013. Microsoft allegedly entertained a few prototypes before shelving the project.
The watch was set to include a 1.5-inch touchscreen, 6GB of internal storage, and swappable watch bands. There were even rumors of the watch case being made of “translucent aluminum,†and was set to use the same magnetic charging connector seen on other Surface devices.
