I still haven’t set aside 90 hours to play it yet, but Persona 5 is currently tearing up the video game world. At 1.8 million copies, it proves that the JRPG genre is still in pure rebound mode and has a lot of wiggle room to climb back into mainstream success.
Director Toshihiro Nagoshi announced the new sales figure in a streaming event this week to a round of applause from the series’ worldwide fanbase. The figure covers the time period from the Japanese release date last Sept. 16.
The JRPG genre has seen two mega hits in the last half year, and between Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV, it seems primed to make a jump back into the general gaming crowd’s good graces. Congrats to SEGA, Atlus, and everyone involved for making this game an international hit.
Now hurry up and put it on the Switch or Vita, so I can sink some time into it.
