Nioh breaks 1 million sales worldwide, Koei Tecmo celebrates with a special armor
Too early to call it the new Dark Souls
Making comparisons between Nioh and Dark Souls is far too easy. Team Ninja was clearly inspired by many of FromSoftware’s ideas from the Dark Souls games, all the way down to character progression and the UI, but there are plenty of differences as well, which I will touch on next week.
On a more meta level though, the two are also very similar in their reception, scoring praise as potential dark horse potentials before actually rising to meet the occasion. I’m not certain if Nioh will ever have the same impact as Dark Souls, and it’s too early to see if this success can be sustainable. Just bask in the moment of having something live up to the hype, and worry about future success later.
That’s the best advice I can give right now.
