New Blade Runner 2049 short is a prelude to the film

  • September 03, 2017

Blade Runner 2049 is one of the most anticipated movies coming out this fall. It takes place 30 years after the original’s storyline in 2019. Aside from what we’ve learned from the trailer, which strongly hints at an uncovered secret that Ryan Gosling’s Officer K discovers that leads him to Rick Deckard, there is little information floating around about the film.

To piece together the storyline, a new short called 2036: Nexus Dawn was released to provide some context of the plot. The short film primarily focuses on what seems to be the antagonist, Niander Wallace, who’s played by Jared Leto.

The film takes place in 2036, as you guessed by the title, in the same cyberpunk world that’s become synonymous with Blade Runner. Inside an office, four unknown characters from the Magistrate’s sector wait around, looking rather annoyed, for a person who they’re supposed to have met a long time ago.

As the head of the group begins to call the meeting, in enters a blind Niander Wallace, helped by his assistant, who turns out to be a replicant.

What is the meeting for you may ask? To overturn the Prohibition of Replicant Technology which has been banned since the fiasco with the Tyrell Corporation in the original film.

The exchange of the characters rises to a fever pitch until the climax, when Wallace gives the unknown characters a strong veiled threat to make the correct decision.

The entire short fantastic. If you’re looking forward to the new movie, we suggest you check it out.
