Logan’s X-23 may be heading back to the big screen

If you’ve seen this spring’s superhero film, Logan, you know Wolverine won’t be hack-and-slashing again anytime soon for a lot of good reasons. But his kind-of progeny, a young mutant named Laura and codenamed X-23, might have another movie left in her. In fact, Logan director James Mangold says a script is in the works.

Now, unlike so many other superhero movies, Fox and Marvel aren’t pretending this movie is scheduled or anywhere near production. The script is still in the early stages, and it’s another of this year’s superhero flicks that helped make it happen.

“Patty [Jenkins’] success with [Wonder Woman] only solidifies for more studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist. The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘well, here we are with a female protagonist,” Mangold said speaking to The Hollywood Reporter. “And what are we going to do with her? That’s where we are with [the script] right now – dreaming.”

In a movie with great, even career-defining performances from actors like Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen still managed to stand out as Laura.

Producer Hutch Parker was similarly careful with what he had to say about the potential film.
