Chatter surrounding the LG V30 has picked up considerably over the past few weeks. Its predecessor, the V20, was an LG experiment that featured a secondary display at the top, and the successor will also push the boundaries of design, according to LG.

LG will include its plastic FullVision OLED panel in the V30, LG confirmed. The South Korean company already uses these displays for its OLED TVs, but this will be the first time it uses the technology for a smartphone. This will also mark the first time since the Flex 2 that LG is using an OLED panel for its smartphone instead of an LCD panel.

“Expertise in OLED has long been a core competency of LG, and the technology has always been seen as a potential value-add for smartphones,” revealed president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company Juno Cho of the news. “With competition in the global smartphone space fiercer now than ever, we felt that this was the right time to reintroduce OLED displays in our mobile products.”

The 6-inch display will feature 4.15 million pixels and a QHD+ (1440 by 2880) resolution. LG is claiming it will be “super immersive quality.” Among the major advantages of using an OLED panel for a smartphone is the incoming integration off VR headsets.
