Kendall Jenner Is ‘Fully Invested’ in PDRN, but What Can It Actually Do?

Kendall Jenner has fronted plenty of beauty campaigns, but her latest one comes with a twist you probably didn’t see coming: the star ingredient is made from salmon sperm.

Yes, really. In June 2026, Korean beauty brand Anua named Jenner its first global ambassador and built the campaign around its PDRN Collagen Glow Facial Serum Spray, which uses salmon-derived PDRN.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because Hollywood has been flirting with salmon sperm for skin for a few years now. Jennifer Aniston helped put it on the map in 2023 when she told WSJ. Magazine she’d tried a salmon sperm facial, though she later admitted she hadn’t seen dramatic results while joking that the technology could be part of skincare’s future.

Kim Kardashian took things a step further in 2024, revealing on The Kardashians that she’d had salmon-derived material injected into her face. Since then, Miley Cyrus, Denise Richards and Kesha have all been linked to similar treatments.

What makes Jenner’s campaign different is where the ingredient is headed. PDRN, short for polydeoxyribonucleotide, is moving out of celebrity treatment rooms and into everyday bio-repair serums, and shoppers are now being asked to believe that a product they use at home can deliver some of the same benefits.

What Is PDRN, and What Can PDRN Skincare Do?

So, what is PDRN, exactly? It’s made from tiny, purified fragments of DNA taken from the sperm cells of certain fish, most often salmon and trout.

Salmon has become the beauty industry’s favorite source because it offers relatively clean DNA with lower levels of proteins, peptides and other contaminants.

Jenner, for one, is a believer. “I’m fully invested,” she told ELLE. “There’s research behind it that I think is pretty promising. It’s only made my skin look glowy and feel hydrated, so I’m into it.”

But you don’t have to take a supermodel’s word for it. Dermatologist Melda Isaac, MD, told Cosmopolitan that PDRN “has real staying power because there are decades of science-based research that is supported by medical use, which gives it credibility.”

That long track record is a big reason brands are so eager to get PDRN into their products.

The ingredient works by interacting with adenosine receptors in the skin, which play a role in inflammation and tissue repair. Put simply, it’s thought to encourage cell growth, support the skin’s natural healing process and make it easier for damaged tissue to bounce back.

That’s where the buzzy benefits come in, including more collagen, firmer and bouncier skin, smoother texture and softer fine lines.

So despite the headline-grabbing source, PDRN’s real appeal has less to do with salmon sperm itself and more to do with what those purified DNA fragments may help your skin do: repair, rebuild and recover.

Can a PDRN Serum Do What an In-Office Salmon Sperm Facial Does?

Here’s the catch. Most of the decades of research behind PDRN comes from injections and medical treatments, not from the serums you can add to your cart and smooth onto your face.

Cosmetic chemist Perry Romanowski told Allure that much of the evidence for PDRN in skincare comes from lab studies where the ingredient is applied directly to cells. “That’s not the same thing as saying, ‘If you put this in a cream, and put that on your skin, it’s going to work,’” he said.

That difference matters because injected PDRN can reach deeper layers of the skin, where it can interact directly with the cells and receptors researchers believe are behind its repair and collagen-boosting effects.

Topical PDRN has a much tougher job. PDRN molecules are fairly large, and Romanowski noted they may struggle to get through intact skin deeply enough to reach the receptors they’re meant to target.

In other words, Kardashian’s injected treatment and Jenner’s Anua skincare spray may share the same star ingredient, but they’re not delivering it the same way or to the same depth.

The Celebrity PDRN Hype Is Real, but the Science Is Still Catching Up

PDRN has gone from medical treatments to celebrity facials to serums sitting on your bathroom counter, and that glow-up is happening faster than the research on topical products can keep up.

Still, experts like Isaac think the ingredient has plenty of room to grow. “I think there will be increased concentrations of the active ingredients, more combinations of PDRN with other rejuvenating products, and there will be more options in delivery mechanisms, including injections of PDRN into deeper tissues,” she told Cosmopolitan.

For now, PDRN and other bio-repair serums look promising, but they’re best seen as an exciting extension of a well-studied ingredient rather than a direct swap for an in-office treatment, no matter how good they look in a Kendall Jenner campaign.
