It’s been a lowest golden eagle count in some-more than dual decades for this time of year in Kananaskis Country.

Each open and fall, proffer observers from a Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation take note of how many of a birds pass over a Rockies along their emigration route.

Since mid-September, they’ve counted usually 2,400 of a birds of chase from a surveillance indicate on Mount Lorette, compared with 3,170 final year, and 3,672 a year before.

Co-ordinator Rosemary Power says the dump could be a short-term trend connected with factors like bad continue and food source issues this year, and that some eagles could be holding opposite routes as a result.

She says a low count isn’t indispensably bad news.

“This year, both open and tumble migrations, we’ve seen a genuine noted decrease next what we’d expect. But we don’t consider that’s a tangible series of birds that are out there,” she said.

“We trust a birds went through; it’s only they didn’t pierce by on their normal lines,” Power said.

Power says a substructure has beheld a decrease in a series of other birds, too.

“We would be really endangered if it was only a eagles, though we’re saying this opposite a house with all a hawks, a falcons, a osprey. So we know that it’s a ubiquitous settlement with these migrant birds, that they’re all struggling with a same issues.”

George Halmazna, who has been with a substructure for 26 years, says birds can understanding with many opposite forms of hurdles along a way.

“It’s only implausible how these birds know how to cope with a continue conditions and intelligent that they are regulating a continue conditions to their advantage,” he said.

The foundation, which has about 25 volunteers, has been counting golden eagles for scarcely 3 decades to assistance improved know their patterns and numbers.

The tumble count runs from Sept. 20 to Nov. 15 each year.
