iOS 11 bug crashing iPhones everywhere—Here’s what to do

A number of reports on Saturday claim Apple’s iPhone is experiencing repeated reboots due to a bug in iOS. According to 9to5Mac, via Reddit, the problem stems from third-party apps that use recurring notifications, like for reminders.

In an unprecedented move, Apple has released iOS 11.2 to address the issue.

What’s weird is the problem began occurring once the clock struck 12:15 a.m. on December 2. The bug would make iPhones respring unprompted, essentially rendering them unusable. Users on Reddit found that a temporary fix includes setting the date back before December 2 or turning off notifications.

If you want to manually set the time and date on your phone, you can head to Settings General Date Time. Disable “Set Automatically” and use the slider to revert the date back at least a day.

You can also disable all of your notifications as a temporary fix. You can do that by going to Settings Notifications. Head to the app that’s sending you recurring notifications and disable “Allow Notifications.”

As several people have noted, if your device is rebooting every 30 seconds, downloading iOS 11.2 is next to impossible. Chances are you’ll have to manually set your phone’s time or turn off notifications before downloading the fix.

The issues facing iOS 11 come the same week as a critical security flaw was discovered in macOS High Sierra. Apple has already issued a fix for that.
