The Xbox One X is a powerful system. One of the big selling points of the system is that not only will older games run better on the system, many will see significant visual enhancements. One of the surprises of the Xbox One X launch, though, was that Xbox 360 games would be getting bespoke enhancements in addition to the many Xbox One titles that would be seeing improvements. Now, a new batch of titles has received enhancements, and they’re all excellent games worth digging out of your closets and digital libraries.
Enhancements are available right now for Crackdown, Fable Anniversary, Forza Horizon, and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
The games run at nine times the original pixel count, and feature improved texture detail and antialiasing. Also added is the ability to turn that feature off. If you want to experience the original game in all its glory, you can find a new setting in the emulated Xbox 360 menu for these games to optimize for graphics or performance.
All four games are classics in their own right. Crackdown, Fable, and Forza Horizon are all marquee titles for the Xbox platform. Crackdown is just months away from revival, while Forza Horizon developer PlayGround Games is allegedly working on a Fable reboot in addition to the next Forza Horizon title. While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt tends to get the attention, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was an excellent game in its own right that showcased CD Projekt Red’s technical and storytelling chops. The game featured a custom-built engine – an increasingly rare thing in game development these days – and had two entirely different middle sections of game that you could play through depending on a decision you made at the end of the first act.
