Force Friday II AR game to reveal new Last Jedi character

Force Friday II kicks off around the world at 12:01am local time on Sept. 1. As you’re out in the stores through Sept. 3 looking at all of the new products, make sure to keep an eye out for special signs so the entire world can meet a new character from Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Disney announced on Thursday that an AR treasure hunt game has been added to the Force Friday II festivities. Over the three days of Sept. 1 through Sept. 3, 20,000 retail stores across 30 countries will feature signage that will interact with the official Star Wars mobile app. You will need to update your app to ver 2.3 – which went live on Aug. 24 – to participate in the game. Once you’re installed the game you can begin playing immediately by scanning this image which will unlock the new alien race, the Porgs.

We just tried it out and got the little creature frolicking on a rock in front of our computers.

By sharing photos or videos featuring the in-store AR characters on Twitter or Instagram using #FindtheForce and #Sweepstakes throughout Force Friday II weekend, fans in select global markets can participate in a sweepstake for the chance to win the ultimate fan experience: tickets to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere in December.

There are 15 characters in total to collect, so get out to the stores starting Sept. 1. You can see the full list of stores by country below.
