This isn’t just a simple repackaging, either. Capcom has added some goods to sweeten the deal and make it worth the price they’re asking. Capcom says in its press release that each game is in 1080p and features “a number of filtering options that replicate a classic retro look and feel.†There are new modes, too, including Boss Rush and Time Attack modes for each game. As these were NES action games, some of them are a little challenging, and Capcom has accounted for that, too. For those going in with more nostalgia than skill, there’s a rewind option to recover from mistakes.
Back in the 1990s, those of us in grade- and middle-school knew exactly what we were doing each weekday after school. No, not homework or playing outside. No, the Disney Afternoon was on and the adventures of characters like Baloo, Scrooge McDuck, and Darkwing Duck were must-see TV. For kids born between, roughly, 1980 and 1986, there’s a ton of nostalgia packed into what was really just a two-hour block of afternoon television programming.
Around that time, Capcom was one of the biggest publishers around, and they had a lock on all the Disney games coming to the Nintendo Entertainment System. Now, just as Duck Tales gets ready to rush back into our consciousness, Capcom is bringing all that nostalgia in one package. It’s perfectly timed and it looks like they’re trying to offer up something worth digging into.
The Disney Afternoon collection is set to release on April 18 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and will be available for $19.99 as a digital download.
And now I have four cartoon theme songs going through my head at once.
