Apple confirms fix for annoying iOS autocorrect bug on the way

When iOS 11.1 hit, it introduced several new emoji and marked the return of the 3D Touch multitasking gesture. But it also inadvertently surfaced a weird autocorrect bug that has been driving iPhone owners mad.

Luckily, thanks to the arrival of the iOS 11.2 beta, Apple has developed a fix—but it won’t be available for wide public consumption for a little while longer. (If the problem is really bugging you, Apple has come up with a temporary workaround.)

What’s weird is not all iOS users are experiencing the bug. What happens is when a users types the letter “i”, autocorrect steps in and corrects it to a capital A with a question mark symbol. I haven’t run into the issue, but a few friends have reached out asking what the heck is going on.

To which I say, respite is on the way. Unfortunately, it’s unclear when the consumer release of iOS 11.2 will land. Apple only just rolled out the second beta for iOS 11.2, so it will probably be a few weeks (at the very least) until the final version is available for public consumption.

As MacRumors notes, in addition to Apple’s temporary solution, turning off Predictive text or using a third-party keyboard also overcomes the issue.
