Tua Tagovailoa’s agent says remark about Bengals was a joke

Former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s agent, Leigh Steinberg, appeared on 97.3 ESPN FM in New Jersey Thursday and was interviewed about his client possibly going No. 1 overall in April’s NFL draft.

Steinberg was less than complimentary to the holders of the top pick, the Cincinnati Bengals, according to the radio station’s Twitter account.

“You want to make sure that your client ends up with a good organization….I’m hoping Cincy falls in love with Joe Burrow,” the account tweeted out.

Burrow, the former LSU quarterback, is presumed to be the top choice for the Bengals in April.

Steinberg has a bad history of his quarterback clients going to the Bengals. He represented former first-round draft picks and notable NFL busts David Klingler and Akili Smith.

After the Bengals drafted Klingler, cameras infamously caught Steinberg saying, “Oh my God, Mike Brown.”

Later on Thursday, Steinberg tweeted he was just joking about the Bengals drafting Tagovailoa.

“#BENGALS Someone @Bengals on radio row was teasing me bout Mike Brown and I made a joke, any client I have would be happy to go to Cincinnati, nice city, good folks” he tweeted.
