Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren suffered a Lisfranc injury in his right foot and will miss the entire 2022-23 NBA season, the team announced Thursday morning.
Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in June’s NBA draft out of Gonzaga, injured his foot during the weekend while playing in a pro-am basketball event in Seattle.
“Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said. “We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community.

“One of the things that most impressed us during the process of selecting Chet was his determination and focus. We expect that same tenacity will carry him through this period of time as we work together and support him during his rehabilitation.”
A Lisfranc joint injury, such as the one suffered by Holmgren, occurs when there is damage to the bones or ligaments in the middle part of the foot, according to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The injury is named after French surgeon Jacques Lisfranc de St. Martin.
