The 1966 FIFA World Cup England™ is best remembered for a Three Lions’ Final feat over rivals West Germany during Wembley and a goalscoring exploits of Portugal fable Eusebio. But England 1966 also binds a special place in a story of Russian football.

Competing as a Soviet Union, they finished fourth during those tellurian finals – their best opening during a World Cup to date. Former defender Vladimir Ponomaryov shares his memories of personification in England, where a Russians met Eusebio’s Portugal in a Match for Third Place.
