Ed Oliver, the Buffalo Bills’ first-round draft pick in 2019, was arrested in Houston Saturday night and accused of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

According to montgomerycountypolicereporter.com, the 22-year-old, who was wearing a gray Bills T-shirt at the time of his arrest, was in a white Ford Super Duty pickup truck pulling a trailer with what was described as a “dune buggy” on it.

Another motorist apparently called 911 to report Oliver’s vehicle was failing to maintain a lane through a construction zone on state highway 242, and a Montgomery County sheriff’s deputy eventually pulled Oliver over.

Buffalo Bills defensive end Ed Oliver (91) was the team’s first-round draft pick in 2019.

At that time, a DWI certified officer was called to the scene and performed a field sobriety test. Oliver reportedly had an open beer between his legs when he was pulled over and “appeared nervous” according to the report. Later, a search of the truck discovered a pistol.

Oliver was transported to Kingwood Hospital for a mandatory blood draw and then transported to the Montgomery County Jail where he was charged for DWI and carrying the weapon.

The Bills put out this statement: “We are aware of the situation and we are gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this point.”

It has been rare since coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane came to Buffalo in 2017 that a member of the team has run afoul of the law. But the offseason is always the time when all NFL teams worry the most about their players because they don’t have them under their watchful eye and maintaining a routine.

Obviously, the pandemic has changed everything this year and the players haven’t been at One Bills Drive for more than four months. Had this been a normal offseason, Oliver and the rest of the Bills would be in Buffalo for organized team activities.

The last Bills player arrested was rookie undrafted free agent signee Tyrell Dodson who was charged in May 2019 for domestic violence and later pled guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was suspended six games, though he never played a snap for the team all year.
