Now, a Gregoire family, who live in Yorkton, are facing another hurdle: spending additional time and income to see a pediatrician in Regina, about a two-hour expostulate from home.Â
It’s a usually choice they’ve had given a finish of September when Yorkton’s only pediatrician, Rikash Jokhan, left a city for a job in Kelowna, B.C.Â
Gregoire pronounced Jokhan’s depart also meant there wouldn’t be a medicine to manage a 3 pediatric beds during Yorkton Regional Health Centre.Â

Gregoire, whose daughter saw Jokhan on a unchanging basis, pronounced after Jokhan told her he was leaving, she assumed the position would be filled. She’s undetermined since a city of Yorkton’s size — usually over 16,000 people — wouldn’t have entrance to a pediatrician.
“I remember meditative … Yorkton’s always had a pediatrician,” Gregoire said. “Then a center of Sep came and he said, ‘I have to impute we to a Regina pediatrician.'”Â
The subsequent day she was told it would be over 4 months before she could get an appointment with the pediatrician in Regina.

Although she was means to see a pediatrician most progressing than expected, she now has to spend some-more income and time travelling to Regina and behind to Yorkton each dual weeks for appointments.Â
“It was really formidable during first,” she said, adding she tries to be as stretchable as possible.
The Gregoires aren’t a usually family influenced by a detriment of a city’s pediatrician.
Rachel Gregoire pronounced her family alloy told her Jokhan had scarcely 200 patients in Yorkton and a surrounding area. She worries relatives who don’t have adequate travel might not be means to get their children caring in Regina or Saskatoon like she does.Â
“If anything is wrong with your child, we are dual hours divided from a hospital,” she said.
We combined a life here.– Rachel GregoireÂ
Their doctor has endorsed they pierce to a incomparable centre to be closer to care, though that’s something they aren’t penetrating on doing.Â
“Easier pronounced than done,” she said. “We relocated here from Saskatoon. We [wanted] a smaller city … housing is cheaper.
“We combined a life here.”Â
In a matter sent to CBC News, a Saskatchewan Health Authority says a supervision has committed to appropriation a health management to partisan adult to 3 agreement pediatricians for a city.
The matter goes on to say the SHA is also working to yield pediatric hospital coverage on a scheduled basement in a Yorkton area while it recruits permanent positions. That coverage is not nonetheless in place.Â
A orator for a SHA pronounced there is no timeline for when the work will be complete.
During a new outing to Regina, Gregoire pronounced she met a pediatrician who visits First Nation communities around Yorkton. He told her he would try to stop in Yorkton to see Alice if he had time. It’s not transparent if that pediatrician is a same one a SHA is looking to yield hospital coverage, as it can’t give out a doctor’s name.
In a meantime, Gregoire will continue creation a trips with Alice to Regina.
She hopes a SHA will see a need for pediatric caring in Yorkton.
“There’s a lot of people who live here who … would’ve insincere that their child would be totally excellent if something happens and they benefaction during [Yorkton’s] hospital,” she said. “That’s not a case.”
