Halifax retirement home seeks ‘therapy bunny’ handler

A Halifax retirement home is looking for a volunteer bunny handler to debate its resident rabbit around to a people who live there.

Toaster has been creation a rounds during Northwood over a final few weeks, charity comfort to seniors seeking some still companionship.

“You’re touching something comfortable and soft,” pronounced Northwood resident Ann Hicks. “It done my day. When we went behind to my room, we felt happy given we had met Toaster.”

Toaster’s owners is Angela Smyth, a physiotherapy partner during Northwood. She brought Toaster to Northwood to see how residents would respond. 

“People generally like scratching his conduct or rubbing his ears or touching his body,” Smyth said.

While a home calls Toaster a “therapy bunny,” no central nomination exists to commend rabbits as use animals.

“There’s no paperwork to contend he’s an tangible therapy rabbit,” Smyth said. “But only saying him brings fun to people and that’s a idea for me, to yield people with happiness.

While Smyth shares Toaster with as many Northwood residents as she can, she still has her day-to-day duties.

So, Northwood is seeking a proffer “bunny handler” to assistance debate Toaster around a facility.

It is one of some-more than 40 proffer positions accessible during Northwood.

Toaster’s job, though, isn’t adult for grabs.

“He does have his possess proffer badge,” Smyth said. “So he’s strictly with Northwood.”
