Stephen Colbert has opened up about his relationship with longtime wife Evelyn McGee Colbert.
The 62-year-old late night personality – whose show just came to an end – gushed over Evelyn, also 62, this week, saying he still ‘can’t believe’ he is with her.
‘I go like, “I can’t believe Evie McGee’s going out with me,” because I mean, we grew up in the same town. Like, wow. Evie McGee. I must be doing okay,’ he told People magazine.
The couple met in 1990, got engaged in 1992, and tied the knot in October 1993.
Recalling their first date, Colbert said, ‘Day after Christmas, Feast of Saint Stephen, so that’s auspicious.’
He added, ‘And then we didn’t see each other again until February, I think it was around February 11th or February 9th. I know that Monday was the day before Mardi Gras, and I knew I would not see her again until Good Friday, and so I gave up Evie McGee for Lent.’

Elsewhere in the chat with the publication, he admired his wife’s beauty, saying, ‘Look how pretty she is!’
The husband and wife, married 32 years, share daughter Madeleine, 30, and sons Peter, 28, and John, 24.
Colbert said of Evelyn: ‘She’s great company. I try to be equally good company. I don’t think I am as good company as she is.’
And he still enjoys putting a smile on his wife’s face.
‘We laugh a lot. She’s the best laugh. She’s the laugh I want to get more than anybody else. That’s the best,’ he emphasized.
It comes after the star recently revealed his unexpected celebrity crush while chatting with Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and John Oliver on Strike Force Five Returns To Celebrate Stephen Colbert.
The host said he was ‘wildly attracted’ to actress Michelle Williams in 2019 and ‘didn’t know what to do with his eyeballs,’ describing her as his most ‘distracting’ guest.
Colbert admitted: ‘I’ll tell you who I did not expect to be wildly attracted to. Like, I didn’t know what to do with myself. I did not know what to do with my eyeballs when Michelle Williams was on for the first time.
‘She sat down across from me and I went, “F***, what is wrong with my head?” I’d better not look directly at her for this entire interview.’

Colbert also recently said Vogue supermodel Paulina Porizkova wanted to have sex with him
In the same conversation, he said Vogue supermodel Paulina Porizkova wanted to have sex with him.
‘That was a flex that I’ve never ever been able to match,’ he told his fellow comics.
Porizkova talked about her crush on Colbert while on Good Morning America in 2000.
Host Elizabeth Vargas told the model that Colbert had mentioned her name on his show.
‘If it wasn’t for the fact that I’m already very happily married, and so is he apparently, he is just my kind of guy,’ Porizkova responded. ‘He’s so hot.’ At the time, she was wed to Cars musician Ric Ocasek, who died in 2019.
Last July Colbert announced that Paramount/CBS would not be renewing his contract after 11 years on the air, and they would end the late-night program after 44 years.
At the time, the network claimed it was ‘purely a financial decision.’
But the cancellation came days after the devout Catholic called Paramount/CBS’s $16 million lawsuit settlement with President Donald Trump ‘a big fat bribe.’
Paramount was also in the midst of a multi-billion-dollar merger with the movie studio Skydance, which requires the government approval of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
