The Red Hot Chili Peppers took to social media on Sunday to announce the return of guitarist John Frusciante and the departure of Josh Klinghoffer.
The Los Angeles-based band shared the new lineup announcement with their roughly 3.5 million followers on Instagram.
‘The Red Hot Chili Peppers announce that we are parting ways with our guitarist of the past ten years, Josh Klinghoffer. Josh is a beautiful musician who we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him, and the countless gifts he shared with us,’ the group said in a text-only posting.

‘We also announce with great excitement and full hearts, that John Frusciante is rejoining our group. Thank you,’ the band added.
Frusciante, 49, has returned for his third stint with the band after joining the group in 1988 following the overdose death of guitarist Hillel Slovak in 1988 at age 26.Â

The band’s original lineup consisted of Anthony Kiedis, 57, Flea, Slovak and drummer Jack Irons, who left after the death of his friend Slovak.
Chad Smith, 58, has been the group’s drummer since 1988.
Frusciante played on the band’s 1999 album Californication, which is their biggest commercial success with 16 million copies sold worldwide.Â

Frusciante has received critical acclaim for his guitar playing and was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2012 as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.Â
