Oppenheimer star David Krumholtz announces shock acting hiatus as he confesses to being ‘fed up’ and ‘frustrated’ with Hollywood
Actor David Krumholtz said he’s ‘frustrated,’ ‘fed up,’ and ‘fried’ as he’s sidelining himself from show business.
‘I kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day,’ the 48-year-old said in a Threads post he later deleted. ‘There was a time when being competitive and self-involved really served my pursuit. That time has passed.’
Krumholtz said that stepping away from Hollywood has ‘been something [he’s] been petrified to do for years,’ adding that he harbored a fear he’d ‘go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game.’
The New York City native, who played Isidor Rabi in the Oscar-winning motion picture Oppenheimer, said that ‘a huge wave of relief washed over’ him after he ‘sent the definitive email,’ despite uncertainty of what lies ahead.
‘Not sure what I’m going to do for money instead, or how I’m going to do it, but I just removed a humongous burden, one that I truly didn’t fathom the weight of until it was gone,’ Krumholtz said. ‘Frustrated, fed up, fried.’
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Krumholtz for further comment on the story.

Krumholtz, who’s been seen in recent films such as Supergirl and Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, subsequently posted to followers who had reacted with supportive sentiments in the wake of his announcement.
He said that ‘the love and encouragement’ in reply to the post was ‘overwhelmingly surprising,’ as he explained how he was disenchanted with the business itself as opposed to the art form.
‘Acting professionally is a very different concept than the exercise of acting itself,’ Krumholtz said. ‘I’ve enjoyed every single minute of exercising the muscle. I’ve enjoyed the fanfare.
‘There was a time when being competitive and self-involved really served my pursuit. That time has passed. Much to MY overwhelming surprise. There will always be great joy in the exercise. But for me, the profession has lost its gleam.’
The actor also exchanged messages with entertainment industry peers, such as actor Garret Dillahunt, who said, ‘This is sad news for me. But I am happy for you. I understand completely.’
Krumholtz said in response, ‘Garret, man. Means the world. Ain’t over, rather, redefining my terms.
‘Hoping to find a new, more rewarding passion. Me, my product, and I mentality is not working anymore. I want to try to be of service. No crystal ball.’
Replying to actor Geoffrey Blake, who told him he was ‘too good to quit’ the business, Krumholtz said he was ‘not quitting entirely’ but rather ‘taking a bit of a step back and an indefinite break.’

Krumholtz has been active in show business for more than three decades, beginning in 1993 with roles in films such as Addams Family Values and Life with Mikey.
Among the other notable films he’s been seen in include 1994’s The Santa Clause, 1998’s Slums of Beverly Hills, 1999’s 10 Things I Hate About You, 2004’s Ray, 2004’s Harold Kumar Go to White Castle, 2007’s Superbad and 2016’s Sausage Party.
He’s also maintained an active presence on TV in that time, appearing on shows including Numb3rs, Freaks and Geeks, ER, Monty, Chicago Sons, The Closer and The Trouble With Normal.
