Nappy Roots’ Fish Scales is recovering after he was shot in the leg during a robbery and kidnapping effort in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around at 11PM at Atlantucky, the brewery Scales co-owns with his Grammy-nominated rap group, and police allege two suspects first robbed a patron in the parking lot before going inside the brewery and going after Scales, TMZ and NBC reports.
The suspects forced Scales into his car at gunpoint and drove him to his house in a nearby suburb of Hapeville. He managed to escape, but was shot in the leg during the struggle.

The car was recovered by police and no arrests have been made yet, TMZ reports.
Speaking about the incident, FOX 5 reports Capt. Christian Hunt said: ‘Once he had an opportunity he tried to make a run for it.’
‘What we learned is the suspects grabbed him and that’s when he got shot.’
The incident is isolated, according to police. Security video is currently being reviewed by investigators, according to FOX5.
The music group addressed the incident in a statement where they said Scales – real name Melvin Adams – was now ‘stable’ and ‘in good spirits.’

‘Last night out brother, Scales was a victim of an attempted robbery on the evening of August 17 in Atlanta after closing our brewery, Atlantucky. We are blessed to say that he is stable and in good spirits after suffering a leg injury.
‘Luckily, none of our dedicated patrons of Atlantucky were at the scene or harmed during the robbery.
‘We are so thankful our brother is safe and on the road to recovery.
‘We appreciate some privacy as we are trusting the Atlanta Police Dept in the ongoing investigation.

‘Scales also mentioned he is looking forward to getting back to work both on music and brewery.
‘Love and Keep it Nappy.’
Scales’ Nappy Roots bandmate, Skinny DeVille, told FOX 5: ‘I’m a little heartbroken.
‘Scales is my best friend and my brother and my business partner,’ he told Fox 5. ‘I just said yesterday, if something happened to him, I’d be devastated.’
Initially, friends and family thought he himself was the victim
Skinny recounted having friends and family reach out to him on Thursday morning, asking if he was OK. The rapper said several people believed he had been the victim of the robbery.
That was when he learned about the news.
‘I was shocked, I didn’t know what to do,’ he said.
