Mariah Carey’s song All I Want For Christmas Is You hits No. 1 for the first time… 25 years after its initial release

It’s taken 25 years but it finally made it. Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You is top of the Billboard, Hot 100 chart.

It hit its record high on Monday, making it Mariah’s first number one since 2008’s Touch My Body, according to Billboard.

The delighted star, 49, took to Twitter to reveal the news to her fans, tweeting, ‘We did it’ along with emojis of a face crying tears of joy, a heart, a Christmas tree and a blue butterfly.

All I Want is also the first Christmas hit to make No. 1 since The Chipmonk Song that reigned over the season in 1958.

Mariah’s carol was first released on her 1994 Merry Christmas album.

It peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot Adult Contemporary chart and at No. 12 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart.

It has gradually become an anthem rolled out at parties all around the world, pushing it to a high of No. 3 last year.

Meanwhile, this is Mariah’s 19th No.1 putting her just behind the Beatles with 20 and way ahead of the next closest singer, Rihanna, with 14, according to Billboard.

The Queen of Christmas, as she has become, has said many times that she wrote the song in just 90 minutes with co-writer Walter Afanasieff.

She was just 24 at the time and had been pushed to make a Christmas album by her then husband and manager Tommy Mattola.

But they had no idea of what a mega hit it would turn out to be, earning the singer more than $60 million in royalties since then.

Mariah has recently wrapped her annual festive tour, which began in November with a five-show residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

She played five more shows in December, beginning in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on December 7, and wrapping at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday, before heading out for a night on the town at TAO Downtown.
