Kylie Jenner causes catfight backstage at Victoria’s Secret show: Supermodels who couldn’t hide their rage over her $50m Fantasy Bra… as Kris Jenner’s secret deal to get her on runway is exposed

It wasn’t just Victoria’s Secret fans who were shocked when Kylie Jenner appeared out of the darkness in a glittering, diamond ‘Fantasy Bra’ at Sunday night’s much-vaunted runway show.

Some of the brand’s supermodels were left equally stunned backstage, with the selection of Jenner having been kept a closely guarded secret.

In fact, the Daily Mail has learned that veteran catwalk queens were ‘speechless’ the 29-year-old reality TV star had been chosen over a host of long-time Victoria’s Secret ‘Angels’ for the coveted headline spot at the Los Angeles event.

The Fantasy Bra is a custom, gemstone-encrusted piece that this year cost $50 million and is the showstopping pinnacle of Victoria’s Secret shows. International supermodels such as Gisele Bundchen, Claudia Schiffer and Candice Swanepoel count among the lucky few who have worn one over the years.

‘Some of the old-school models were not thrilled that Kylie was the center of attention,’ a source tells the Daily Mail.

‘I think it was the throwback models with massive fame who were miffed because it can’t be easy seeing the younger girls taking over. Also Kylie is not a model, she’s a billionaire cosmetics mogul, so I am sure those old timers were like, ‘Stay in your lane, babe!’

‘I’m just sayin’ that vets like Candice Swanepoel and Elsa Hosk did not look too thrilled when they were on the runway.’ (Swanepoel wore her Fantasy Bra in 2013 and Hosk hers in 2018.)

For all the backstage grumbling, however, there will be no public fighting over Jenner’s inclusion in the show. ‘These women are too smart to say anything, they know how the fame game works and they knew Kylie would get buzz [for the brand]. But look at their faces, they didn’t seem happy at all,’ said our source.

Publicly, plenty of models came out in support of Jenner, who some critics pointed out looked a little unsure in her stilettos.

‘She had friends on stage like Gigi and Bella Hadid, who love her, also Amelia [Hamlin Gray] and she knows Tate McRae (the pop star sang during the show). There were plenty of girls there who are her longtime allies,’ said our source.

‘Irina Shayk is close friends with Gigi [Hadid] because they coparent her kid. So Irina knows Kendall and Kylie, and was cool with it.’ 

Jenner also had support in the form of her boyfriend, Timothee Chalamet, and mom Kris Jenner, who were both in the audience watching.

Adam Selman, chief creative officer at Victoria’s Secret, told Vogue magazine he chose Jenner to wear the bra because the reality star ‘really extends beyond fashion, beyond culture, beyond TV, beyond one singular thing.’

‘That’s the exact same thing that we do. Like, the show is so big, it’s true entertainment, and I think that she is a great catalyst for that. She’s really created her own culture, which – how many people can say that?’ he added.

The Daily Mail has learned however that the Fantasy Bra honor fell to Kylie because her older sister, the actual supermodel Kendall Jenner – who has not worked with Victoria’s Secret since 2018 – is currently tied to rival lingerie giant, Intimissimi.

And it was famous ‘momager’ Kris Jenner who told Victoria’s Secret that Kylie was available in Kendall’s place.

‘When Kylie heard months ago that Victoria’s Secret wanted her she said yes right away, she was flattered,’ said a source. 

‘Kylie walking VS is also very good for promoting her brand, too, as she has made it clear she wore Kylie Cosmetics on stage, which has allowed her to talk about her new product, the Winter Kissed collection,’ added the source. 

‘Of course, Kris Jenner loved that Kylie was wearing the diamond bra. Kris can sure work a deal. She was like, “If Kylie is going to be at the show, it is going to be a princess moment for her.”‘

And Kendall appeared more than happy to play along, commenting on her sister’s Instagram post celebrating the show by saying, ‘A gorgeous woman!!!’

‘Kylie was at the VS show only because it was Kendall who said, “Do it.” She had her sister’s support,’ said the source. 

Mom Kris also took to Instagram to call Kylie ‘my angel girl!!!’ while older sister Kim Kardashian said, ‘Just perfect.’ 

Kylie’s Fantasy Bra this year featured 4,410 natural diamonds as well as a massive 75-carat yellow diamond. It took 15 people more than 1,000 hours to construct and cost a whopping $50 million, making it the brand’s most expensive Fantasy Bra. 

The bras have been a staple of the Victoria’s Secret runway since 1996 when Claudia Schiffer debuted a $1 million creation.

As for whether Kylie felt any nerves walking alongside powerhouse models such as Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio on Sunday, one insider said that isn’t her style. 

‘Kylie was very confident on stage – that is the one thing that Kylie has plenty of: confidence,’ said a source.

‘She never backs down from anything, doesn’t care what her haters think and does her thing. She laughs at insecurity, it rolls off her back, she has zero fear in life.

‘She knew she looked great and she would get a ton of press so she was stoked. If she looked nervous, that may have been a brief flash of stage fright, but the truth is that not much scares Kylie.’

On Monday, Kylie shared photos and videos of her walking the show on social media, writing, ‘STILL DREAMING… thank you!!! a moment i’ll never forget.’

After 2018, when Hosk wore a $1 million Dream Angels Fantasy Bra adorned with Swarovski diamonds and a matching body chain, the brand stopped using the bras in the annual shows amid a changing cultural landscape and declining viewership.

The decision to bring back the Fantasy Bra this year was made by new CEO Hillary Super, who took the helm in 2024 and hopes to reinvigorate the brand with a return to its classic ‘sexy’ heritage. 

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Kendall, Kylie and Hosk and Swanepoel for comment.
