Streaming breakthrough: HBO Max hits Roku devices Thursday ahead of ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ debut

Wonder Woman 1984 starring Gal Gadot, will make its way to Roku devices after all when the film hits HBO Max on Dec. 25 on HBO Max.

But since HBO Max launched in May, the service has not be available on Roku devices. It hadn’t been available on Amazon Fire TV devices until mid-November, either. 

The two parties teased and announced the deal in a cute Twitter thread Wednesday afternoon.

release all of its 2021 movies – including “The Matrix 4,” “Dune,” “The Suicide Squad,” and “Space Jam: A New Legacy” on the subscription service the same day as theaters for no extra cost. HBO Max costs $14.99 monthly but currently has a discount if you pay $69.99 for six months would land on HBO Max on Christmas Day, which is next week.

““We believe that all entertainment will be streamed and we are thrilled to partner with HBO Max to bring their incredible library of iconic entertainment brands and blockbuster slate of direct to streaming theatrical releases to the Roku households,” said Scott Rosenberg, senior vice president, platform business, for Roku.

Earlier Wednesday, HBO Max announced it had arrived on Sony’s PlayStation 5, too.
