We’re a few weeks away from seeing which films and performances the Academy Awards will honor, but the thespians will make their voices heard Sunday night at the Screen Actors Guild’s ceremony.
The 26th annual SAG Awards are an important stop on the way to the Oscars (Feb. 9) since the actors make up the largest voting bloc in the academy. And in a season where there are no clear front-runners yet, best picture nominees “The Irishman,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “Parasite” and “Jojo Rabbit” will duel for outstanding performance by a cast – the top SAG top prize – against “Bombshell,” which leads all films with four SAG nominations.
The awards will also be a chance for all four favorites in the Oscars’ acting categories – Joaquin Phoenix (vying for best actor in “Joker”), Renee Zellweger (best actress, “Judy”), Brad Pitt (supporting actor, “Once Upon a Time”) and Laura Dern (supporting actress, “Marriage Story”) – to pull ahead from the rest of the competition.
