This week in OnPolitics: Summer lovin', had me a blast

It’s Friday, OP peeps! The sun is shining and the weekend is nigh. Summer days, drifting away, right? We’re still reeling from reports that Sean Spicer won’t be on Dancing With the Stars, but never fret: Doesn’t Anthony Scaramucci need something to do now?

Let’s get to the major moments of today and this week.

Tell me more, tell me more

Leaks have plagued Donald Trump since before he even took office and he has complained about them all the while. In Anthony Scaramucci’s extremely short tenure (you know, last week), he vowed to remove all the leakers from the White House. So Friday’s move by Attorney General Jeff Sessions (who, yes, still has a job) to crack down on leaks wasn’t a surprise. This will include the review of Justice Department policy related to subpoenas issued to media organizations in criminal investigations. Translation: Reporters could be targeted.

“We respect the important role that the press has and we give them respect, but it is not unlimited,” Sessions said. “They cannot place lives at risk with impunity.”

Oh Anthony, we hardly knew ye. But perhaps that’s for the best — your days-long tenure as head of the White House communications shop was a whirlwind, filled with Cain and Abel references and on-the-record, expletive-filled chats with reporters. We know you had plans, but things change. Godspeed on that whole tax bill thing and take pride in the fact that you’re probably going to be a trivia question for political nerds someday.

But oh, those summer nights

Wheels up: President Trump is off to Bedminster for a 17-day vacation. The Senate went on break yesterday (though it’s gaveling in regularly, which prevents Trump from making any recess appointments). The House has already been gone for a week.

So we’re going to do the same and head out the door, at least until Monday. What could possibly happen?
