USA TODAY

PHOENIX – The online glimpses the late U.S. Sen. John McCain offered of his life were time and again bursts of pride for daughter Meghan, who often joined him in the public eye.

The tweets go back years: sometimes pictures of the two smiling at the family retreat in Cornville, Arizona. Another time, he wrote that she did a “great job” on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” in September 2013.

He reminded his scores of followers to listen to her radio show. Dozens of times over the years, he stated how proud he was in his tweets: The words of a beaming dad among what oftentimes were more stoic tweets about domestic and foreign policy.

In fact, his very first foray on Instagram is a grainy image of the two, posted in April 2012.

Meghan introduced me instagram!

Tweets over the years

On Twitter, the senator congratulated Meghan on her first day as a host on “The View,” posting a clip as she was welcomed:

He shared an old family photo the day after her wedding, writing that he was “deeply blessed” to give his daughter away at the ceremony in November of last year:

Years earlier, in October 2013, he spotted his daughter’s face on the side of a bus, advertising her talk show at the time and told his followers, “@MeghanMcCain’s face is everywhere!”

In 2014, he wished her a happy 30th birthday: just one of several birthday posts over the years.

Last August, they enjoyed the solar eclipse together:

His last tweet mentioning Meghan, on March 22, congratulated her and “The View” on four Daytime Emmy nominations.

Doting Instagram posts

Instagram offered an even closer look at the doting dad’s admiration for his daughter.

In an August 2017 selfie with Cindy and Meghan at an Arizona Diamondbacks game, he wrote that “Win or lose, always a fun night watching @dbacks with the family!”

And he tagged a few family members including Meghan in a #ThrowbackThursday in July 2013. They’re all wearing heavy patterned sweaters, smiles on their faces. Meghan was the first to comment: “DAD!!!!!”
