A man was arrested on Monday after allegedly attempting to enter a roadway closed for first lady Jill Biden’s motorcade before an altercation with Secret Service officers.

Monday evening, an individual “attempted to enter the restricted portion of the roadway and disregarded orders to stop from U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers,” Secret Service press secretary Justine M. Whelan confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY.

He was detained after allegedly “attempting to flee from officers” and “a minor physical altercation.” Two of the officers were taken to a nearby hospital after the incident, and the man was also evaluated after requesting medical attention.

He was charged with assault on a police officer, failure to obey, crossing a police line and resisting arrest. The motorcade’s movement was not affected by the incident, according to Whelan.

USA TODAY has reached out to the first lady’s office for additional details. The Secret Service declined to provide additional information.

The individual was a man, according to multiple reports.
