So far as we can tell, the town of Ding Dong Dell and the world of Ni no Kuni are really the only links between the original game and this sequel. We’ll assume that players won’t need experience with the first game to enjoy the second. It’s due on the PlayStation 4 and PC platforms on January 19, 2018.
Now, as for how it looks… this game sure is a beauty, isn’t it?
Here’s the interesting thing. The original Ni no Kuni included work by Level-5, the main developer, and Studio Ghibli, the animation house behind the likes of My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke. Ni no Kuni II does not feature Studio Ghibli’s involvement, but former Ghibli Character Designer Yoshiyuki Momose, who worked on the original game, is working with Level -5 on this sequel.
It’s a stunner, and I can’t wait to play it. Here’s the 30-minute video.
