Nightwing is the next movie in development for the DC Extended Unvierse
Much has been made about the negative critical response to the first three films in the DC Extended Universe, but this isn’t stopping plans for more movies. The studio has a healthy slate planned for the next thee years, and now it’s adding Nightwing to the long list.
According the The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is reportedly in talks with The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay to direct a live-action movie revolving around Nightwing. Nightwing, also known by his regular persona Dick Grayson, was the original Robin in the Batman comics before shedding the alter-ego for Nightwing in the 1980’s.
Chris McCay’s working relationship with Warner Bros. is probably the reason why he’s the leading candidate for the Nightwing project. This would be his first live-action movie. He’s specifically focused on directing animated movies.
In the DC Extended Universe, Batman v. Superman briefly mentioned the death of Robin at the hands of the Joker, but there was no mention of which Robin died. If the DCEU storyline follows the comic books, most likely it was Jason Todd who perished at the hands of the Joker.
The project is still in the very early stages of development. No actors have been attached to the role of Nightwing nor has a script been penned yet.
