Tommy Lee Jones walked the red carpet in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, marking his first step into the limelight since the tragic death of his daughter Victoria Jones.
The 80-year-old actor made his surprise appearance at the premiere for the second season of the FX-Hulu series The Lowdown.
Jones, who appears in two episodes of the show’s upcoming season, joined co-stars Ethan Hawke, 55, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, 16, as well as The Lowdown creator Sterlin Harjo, 46, at the event.
The Academy Award-winning star was last seen publicly on a red carpet at the December 2023 premiere of the film Finestkind.
It’s just over nine months since he lost his daughter who was found dead at 34 in a room at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel on January 1.
The San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner subsequently ruled that she passed away as the result of an accidental overdose due to the ‘toxic effects of cocaine.’

Victoria Jones, seen with her father in December 2017 in Los Angeles, was found dead in a San Francisco hotel room on January 1 at the age of 34. Her death was ruled an accindetal overdose
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Jones for further comment on the story.
A source told The Daily Mail earlier this year that the veteran actor was ‘heartbroken’ and ‘not himself’ following his only daughter’s death.
‘For a tough guy and one that usually has it all together, the stress of losing a child has clearly hit him like a ton of bricks,’ the source said. ‘He’s taking this time to mourn – but he’s also lived a life and has always wanted to age gracefully.’
Jones shared Victoria with his ex‑wife Kimberlea Cloughley, with whom he also has a son Austin Jones, 43.
His role in The Lowdown marks a return to the screen for The Men In Black star after a three-year hiatus.

Jones, 80, plays the estranged father of Ethan Hawke’s character Lee Raybon in a two-episode arc on the FX/Hulu show’s second season
Hawke said it was ‘a real privilege to work with’ Jones, adding: ‘I think when people see the full arc of this story, it’s truly awesome.’ Above, Jones, Hawke and show creator Sterlin Harjo
Set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the neo-noir comedy crime series stars Hawke as a rare-book store owner and self-styled citizen journalist Lee Raybon who investigates local corruption and powerful families.
Jones plays his estranged father and Hawke told TV Insider that he and show creator Sterlin Harjo had really hoped Jones would agree to take the role.
‘We’re just kind of going about who would be a great formidable figure in Lee Raybon’s life and Tommy Lee popped up in our mind,’ Hawke said. ‘Then we couldn’t get him out and he was a fan of The Lowdown.’
Hawke said it had been ‘a real privilege to work with’ Jones, adding: ‘I think when people see the full arc of this story, it’s truly awesome – I felt privileged to be sitting shotgun in a lot of these scenes with him.’
Jones also returns to the big screen on Friday with the theatrical release of the Western Angel and the Badman co-starring Zachary Levi and Meg Fraser.
Directed by Julio Quintana, it’s a remake of the 1947 classic starring John Wayne and Gail Russell.
And next month, Jones is set to start shooting the Brian Helgeland written and directed crime drama Outside Man opposite Ice Cube.
