Can’t decide which game to watch on TV? Googe’s streaming service has a solution.
YouTube on Tuesday said it would begin testing a multiview feature that allows YouTube TV subscribers to watch up to four pre-selected games simultaneously.
The announcement comes just in time for March Madness and a couple of weeks ahead of Major League Baseball’s opening day. The Google-owned company will be rolling out multiview gradually over the coming months and plans to bring multiview to the main YouTube app across TVs later this year.
“YouTube TV is home for sports fans and we want to ensure that we offer our members the best sports viewing experience on TV,” a Tuesday blog post from the company reads.
Subscribers who gain early access to multiview will receive an email notification as well as an alert from YouTube TV. From there, they’ll have the option to watch multiple pre-selected streams at once in their “Top Picks for You” section.
of NFL Sunday Ticket starting in 2023.
“Over time, we’ll refine and add more functionality to multiview, including the option to customize your own multiview streams,” German Cheung, the engineering lead for the YouTube TV core experience team, said in the blog post.
The blog post said multiviewing usually requires a high-powered device, but YouTube moved the processing requirements to its servers.
“This allows all subscribers to use the feature, regardless of their home equipment,” Cheung said.
YouTube TV’s website says the streaming service typically costs $65 per month. A promotion drops the price to $55 per month for the first three months.
