Kansas coach Bill Self will miss the Jayhawks’ Big 12 quarterfinal game Thursday due to illness, the school announced in a release.
Assistant coach Norm Roberts will lead the team in its quarterfinal matchup with West Virginia. The university did not provide further details on Self’s illness, saying only in a release that he is doing well and recovering and “receiving great care at the University of Kansas Health system.”
There is no word on whether Self would rejoin the team in Kansas City should the Jayhawks advance.
Kansas enters the Big 12 tournament ranked No. 4 with 25-6 record and in contention for the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced Sunday. Self won his second national title at the school last season, beating North Carolina in the championship game.
