Taylor Swift’s newest album to appear in your end-of-year list of what you listened to the most on Spotify.

It turns out the music streaming service’s annual breakdown of yearly activity, called Spotify Wrapped, isn’t actually a reflection of your full year.

Spotify has previously confirmed to numerous news outlets, as well as on Twitter, that Wrapped only collects data from Jan. 1 to Oct. 31.

Although some have speculated that the cutoff has to do with eliminating the Christmas music some people play on repeat from Nov. 1 onwards from the data, the company has said it’s simply about the logistics of getting the product done before the end of the year.

FOMO:What makes Spotify’s Wrapped such a popular end-of-year tradition?

What is Spotify Wrapped?

Love it or hate it, come late December, your social media feeds are likely filled with colorful boxes declaring which artists, podcasts and genres of music your friends streamed the most in the past year.

It has been a tradition since the then-titled “Year In Review” was released by the streaming service in 2015.

others dread it being revealed that they spent 600 hours listening to the same three early 2000s emo tracks.

Why is data only collected through October?

Brendan Codey, associate director for Creator Growth and Programs at Spotify, told Newsweek last year that the reason for the hard cutoff is logistics.

Spotify needs time to compile the data and finish creating the graphics for Wrapped, all during a time when Spotify’s staff has time off for Thanksgiving.

“We need to QA the site and we need to finalize assets for Wrapped, all of which takes a while. You throw Thanksgiving into the mix as well and we have even less time,” Codey told Newsweek.

But not per stream. Here’s how it breaks down.

At least one user previously submitted a request to include the November and December data to Spotify’s Community forum.

“If the wrap has to be prepared beforehand and the data end date has to remain October 31st (although still unclear why), then at least count the November-December in the next year’s wrap (start it from November),” user kalipsobznuni submitted in 2020.

launched on Dec. 1 or 2.
