Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage just joined the growing ensemble of Lionsgate’s prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and production is already underway.
The New Jersey-born 53-year-old will take on the role of Casca Highbottom, the dean of the Capitol’s most prestigious high school, Academy.
In Suzanne Collins’ 2020 novel, Highbottom develops the idea of the Hunger Games with Crassus Snow, the father of Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland) who goes on to become the callous autocratic ruler of the Capitol and all of Panem.

Director Francis Lawrence – who helmed Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One, and Mockingjay Part Two – said Highbottom was one of the most powerful people in 18-year-old Coriolanus life.
‘As the austere and vindictive face of the games, he sets the rules that will determine every aspect of Coriolanus’ fate,’ the 51-year-old Grammy-winning filmmaker told Deadline.
‘I’m thrilled that Peter will be bringing him to life.’
And producer Nina Jacobson gushed: ‘Casca Highbottom is a character with secrets. Peter’s magnetism, intensity and dark humor will infuse him with the intelligence, depth and pathos that the role demands.’
