As she navigates her career after getting cut as the opener of fictional pop star Shy Baldwin (Leroy McClain)’s tour, the 1950s-housewife-turned-comic is more determined than ever to become a headliner.
In a preview for season four of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the Manhattanite sits down for a talk with manager Susie Meyerson (Alex Borstein) at a diner.

‘I will only do gigs where I can say what I want,’ she explains to her friend, who looks on in disbelief. ‘That’s what Lenny would do.’
Looking puzzled by the comparison, Susie explains things are different for Lenny Bruce.
‘Well then, make me Lenny Bruce,’ Midge replies. ‘Make me a headliner.’

Still as self-assured as ever, the rising star reminds Susie that’s her job as a manager to handle.
‘That’s not how the business works,’ Susie says sternly, to which Midge suggests they ‘change the business.’

Amazon’s Prime Video’s popular comedy-drama aired its dramatic season three finale back in December 2019, which left fans distraught.
After performing an insensitive set at the expense of Shy Baldwin’s closest sexuality on his own tour at the Apollo Theater, his manager Reggie (Sterling K. Brown) lets Midge go.
At this point, Midge and Susie are simply left to tearfully watch the pair depart on the European leg of Baldwin’s tour.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s fourth season was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which left cast and crew in limbo over when they would start production.
Just five months ago, writers were still ‘debating’ on where Midge would go from after last season.
‘We’re going to be telling the Maisel story slightly differently in the coming season,’ executive producer Dan Palladino told Glamour back in June.
He teased it would be ‘a little more open for us because we try to see a couple seasons down the line…because everything affects everything, so we’re trying to figure that out now.’
