Fraternity Marches Through Ongoing Gang War To End Violence In Chicago

But final weekend, a group of Alpha Phi Alpha, a historically black intercollegiate fraternity, valid this is not a case.

Nearly 300 group marched in a frozen sleet and sleet in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood on Saturday to direct an finish to assault in their community. Joined by Alderman Michelle Harris and Illinois state Reps. Marcus Evans and Elgie Sims, all Democrats, a companionship marched down 79th Street, where village members contend a gang war is raging.

According to the Chicago Tribune,

“We wanted to uncover that a village was not giving up,” pronounced Sims, who is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and now represents Illinois’ 34th District, which includes portions of a South Side of Chicago. “We wanted a business owners to know that we stood with them and we were going to be there creation a statement, station with them, to inspire congregation to condescend those businesses, to inspire people to feel gentle and protected in their community.”  

Rev. Roosevelt Watkins, a priest of Chicago’s Bethlehem Star Missionary Baptist Church and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, told a Chicago City Hall Examiner

“Black business owners, residents, were entrance outward of their homes, opening their windows, business were stepping outward of their shops,” Lamar Brown, a law tyro who participated in a march, told The Huffington Post. “They were applauding us, yelling ‘Good job,’ clapping. Even people in cars were interlude their cars, giving us thumbs up. we consider a bid itself was unequivocally embraced by a community.”
